Wartburg student productions receive NATAS nominations

Waverly, IA (03/19/2024) — Three student productions from Wartburg College received nominations for the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Upper Midwest Foundation Student Production Awards.

Two documentaries produced by students in the college's Department of Journalism & Communication's capstone class - "Brotherhood: The Enduring Heart of Captain Daniels" and "From Iowa to the World" - will go head-to-head in the College Non-Fiction category.

Coverage of Wartburg football versus Illinois College is nominated in the College - Live Sporting Event/Game category.

"I am extremely proud of the hard work and dedication our students pour into their education. It is both humbling and gratifying to see their success," said Penni Pier, department chair. "I am also grateful for the support our faculty and staff give to our students to make sure they have a rich educational experience here at Wartburg."

"Brotherhood" was created by Olivia Foster, Rachel Green, Henry Hahn, Ethan Shawgo, Danika Rademacher and Britta Williams. "From Iowa to the World" was created by Jenna White, James Mossman, Mila Iushkova, Grant Berends, Katie Claman and Eva Schoell.

Caleb Kammerer, Henry Powers, Jax Caddell, Dillon Kremer, Jaden Patterson, Megan Rodriguez, Addie Nabholz, Cyrah Isa and Landon Jepson are credited for their livestream coverage.

"It's a fantastic feeling to be a part of an award like this. This was a team effort. It was great camera work, great replay and great announcing that put the broadcast in the position to be nominated," said Kammerer, a sophomore journalism and communication student.

Winners will be announced during a special awards ceremony April 5 in Minneapolis.
