Student experiences take center stage at Wartburg's RICE Day April 9

Waverly, IA (03/27/2026) — Hands-on and immersive experiences will be celebrated Thursday, April 9, when hundreds of Wartburg College students present research from a multitude of disciplines, discuss lessons from internship experiences and share their talents through art and music at the college's 15th annual RICE Day.

The day of research, internships and creative endeavors kicks off at 8:30 a.m. with a welcoming event in Levick Arena. Throughout the day, the community is invited to engage with students during poster sessions, oral and video presentations, readings, panel discussions, an art exhibit and musical performances. All sessions are free.

"RICE Day is a celebration of our students' curiosity and creativity," said Shawn Ellerbroek, director of undergraduate research. "It's inspiring to see their hard work on display and to share their excitement and achievements with the entire community."

Participating programs include business administration, education, history, languages, cultural studies, music, music therapy, psychology, political science, social work, sociology and health and human performance. The day will end with presentations from students in STEM.

Students representing the Honors Community and the Institute for Leadership Education also will present. Student-created artwork will be on display in the Waldemar A. Schmidt Art Gallery in Bachman Fine Arts Center all day, with a reception for the artists beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Seniors from the Department of Journalism & Communication will present "More Than a Team: A Knight's Legacy," a documentary reflecting on the 90-year history of Wartburg College Athletics through the stories of alumni, coaches and current students. The presentation begins at 2:30 p.m. in Neumann Auditorium.

At 3:50 p.m., Castle Singers and Kammerstreicher will hold open rehearsals in Wartburg Chapel and Sandra Rada Recital & Orchestra Hall in Bachman Fine Arts Center, respectively. The Wartburg Choir will rehearse at 4:50 p.m. in Wartburg Chapel.
