Wartburg College RICE Day will celebrate student research, projects April 11

Waverly, IA (04/05/2024) — Wartburg College's 13th annual Research, Internship and Creative Endeavor Day will begin at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, April 11, with a kickoff celebration in Levick Arena.

The free event, which is open to the community, includes poster sessions, oral and video presentations, readings, panel discussions, displays, art exhibits and performances from hundreds of Wartburg students.

"We are especially excited to begin RICE Day with our new kickoff event, where we will acknowledge award winners and our Outstanding Seniors," said Shawn Ellerbroek, a Wartburg professor and RICE Day coordinator. "This year, organizers have centralized most RICE Day events within The W space, including Levick Arena, the Hall of Champions and classrooms. This will make moving between events easier and the presentation even more accessible to attendees. We invite you to come enjoy, learn from and celebrate our students' many accomplishments with us."

Students will present on everything from the effectiveness of electric vehicles in reducing carbon emissions to research on both glioblastoma and ovarian cancer cells.

Participating programs include business administration, economics, education, languages, literature, cultural studies, music, music therapy, social work, religion, history, psychology, political science, sociology and health and human performance. The day will end with presentations from students in STEM.

Students representing the Honors Community and the Institute for Leadership Education also will present. Student-created artwork will be on display in the Waldemar A. Schmidt Art Gallery and Room 114, both in Bachman Fine Arts Center. A reception will begin at 7 p.m. in the gallery.

Seniors from the Department of Journalism & Communication will present documentaries beginning at 2:30 p.m. in Neumann Auditorium. This year's topics are the opioid crisis and sex trafficking in Iowa.

At 3:45 p.m., Castle Singers and Kammerstreicher will hold open rehearsals in Wartburg Chapel and Orchestra Hall in Bachman Fine Arts Center, respectively. The Wartburg Choir will rehearse at 4:50 p.m. in Wartburg Chapel.
