Four Wartburg College students and a staff member were honored for their commitment to service as part of the school's annual Saint Elizabeth Week celebration.

Pedro Martinez was one of nine Wartburg College students spending their summer educating others about the benefits of the COVID-19 vaccine as a way to increase vaccination rates in their home communities. The ambassador program was funded by the Interfaith Youth Core to address vaccine hesitancy concerns across the country. The Wartburg students are among about 2,000 students from 117 colleges nationwide participating in the program. Caryn Riswold, McCoy Family Distinguished Chair in Lutheran Heritage and Mission, is leading the group.

Kourtney Lilke, Anna Askegaard and Hailey Franzen received the Saint Elizabeth Award for Service, which recognizes students who exemplify a commitment to service and desire to live a life that embodies the Wartburg mission.

Wartburg College senior Jamie Harrings was honored with a 2016 Newman Civic Fellows presented by Campus Compact, a national coalition that brings together more than 1,100 college and university presidents committed to educating students for civic and social responsibility.
