Tyler French honored by Iowa College Media Association

Wartburg student media won 18 awards at the annual Iowa College Media Association conference Feb. 4-5 in Des Moines.

Wartburg's Knight Vision won 11 awards, the Trumpet earned four and KWAR earned three. Winners were selected from more than 650 entries submitted by the 17 colleges and universities represented by ICMA.

In the Better Student Television Contest, Wartburg's Knight Vision won first place for Best Experimental Video (Ben Bogard and Nichole Lyons); Best News, Public Affairs and Sports Storytelling Package (Johnathan McClendon, Michelle Johnson, Jessica Grant, Jenny Kuennen); and Best Sportscasting (Matthew Gruemmer, Nathan Ford and the Knight Vision staff).

Knight Vision also won second-place awards for Best Newscast (Jeanne Edson, Kaitlyn Williams, Ryan Henderson and Lucas Wendland); Best News Programming (Ben Bogard, MacKenzie Sellnau, Nichole Lyons, Michael Bowden, Jake Pippin); Best Promo, Commercial or PSA (Ben Bogard); and Best Long-Form Documentary (Jacob Holsteen, Wesley Bates, Demitris Fambro, Rut Nastiti, Bronson Tatham, Ryan Liddle).

The third-place awards received by Knight Vision included Best Long-Form Documentary (Liz Heying, Katie Wyman, Ashley Davis, Olivia Barnes, Kelsey Bemus, Micah Jensen) and Best Short Film (Wesley Bates, Karina Devine, Adeboye Olaniyan, Matthew Gruemmer, Andrew Richlen).

The team also earned an honorable Mention for Best Long-Form Documentary (Nichole Lyons, Ben Bogard, Marissa Buresh, Taylor Oswald, Courtney Mehus, Alana Enabnit) and Best Promo, Commercial or PSA (Ben Bogard).

In the Better Student News Media Contest, Wartburg's Trumpet won first place for Best Infographic (Mauricio Gutierrez), third place for Best Sports Story (Riley Cole), third place for Best Opinion Writing (Jessica Grant and Amanda Groff) and honorable mention for Best Print Design (Jeanne Edson).

In the Better Student Radio contest, KWAR won both first and third place for Best Sports Broadcast with broadcasters Matthew Gruemmer and Tyler French. The broadcasts were for the Wartburg/Anderson baseball contest and the Wartburg/Loras women's basketball game. KWAR also won second place for Best Promo with Jarren Ford for his Marathon "Back to the Future" promo.
