Emily Brekunitch selected for national intercollegiate honor band

2016 Dec 22

Emily Brekunitch was one of three Wartburg College students selected for the 2017 College Band Directors National Association Small Band Programs Intercollegiate Band.

Brekunitch, a music education major from Geneva, was selected as a second flute alternate with the 120-member band representing 59 schools. The band, conducted by Gary D. Green, emeritus professor of music and director of bands at the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami, will perform March 18 in the Kauffman Center for Performing Arts during the association's annual conference in Kansas City.

"I'm honored even to be selected as an alternate. I realize it's a pretty big achievement to be accepted into the band, and knowing I was even remotely close to making it in is really an achievement," Brekunitch said. "Secretly I'm hoping they will be able to accept me in as a full member, but let's just see what God has in store for me."
